ABOUT MERegistered Nurse/EducatorHello,
I have been proud to be part of the Registered Nursing profession for 18 years, completing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. After completion of my degree, I worked in multiple areas and completed additional continuing education, which I will now discuss. I started my career post-graduation on a general medical and surgical unit, where I remained for one year. Following this opportunity was the completion of training through the critical care nursing course, advancing employment in areas including: Adult intensive care, post-operative recovery, emergency room nursing. I worked for an additional three years, successfully completing a certificate in advanced diabetes education for health care providers, following fulling the requirements of the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board earning the distinction of a CDE (Certified diabetes educator). At this point I changed my employment status from full time to casual in the critical care areas and commenced work on First Nation communities as a diabetes and cardiovascular educator. Soon on the pursuit for further knowledge, I enrolled and successfully completed a post-basic cardiovascular nursing diploma, successfully passing the national certification from Canadian Nurses Association earning the distinction of a CCN(C) (Certified Cardiovascular Nurse). I received and accepted a job offer as a Chronic Disease Management Nurse Facilitator and staff educator employed for the Prairie North Regional Health Authority for the next three years. At this point I changed directions in my educational endeavours and worked towards the successful completion of a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. It was at this time that North West Regional College and Saskatchewan Hospital. I completed my Masters of Nursing degree and additional certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse.
